Alms Giving Ceremony in Luang Prabang, Laos with kids was a great experience. Paige went down for the count with a little stomach bug so I did some exploring with the older girls including some wats and Mount Phousi.

Paige decided to not follow the cardinal rule of wash hands often and keep them out of her mouth and she ended up having the “worst night ever” her words not mine. It was a pretty tough night for her and Lua but luckily she was able to recover quickly.

While she was down for the count, the girls and I took some bikes to go and explore old city Luang Prabang. We saw many wats as well as monks preparing for the festival of lights. After lunch, we hiked up Mount Phousi, where I managed to lose my family. Luckily it’s a small town and we were able to meet up again a short time later.

The next morning we woke up super early for the Alms Giving Ceremony. Unfortunately, things have become far more commercial over the years with now busloads of tourist coming in from resorts outside of town, but if you get off the main drag, away from the noise, it can really be a humble experience. Lexi actually chose to wake up early in the morning a second time because she enjoyed it so much.

The big show of Buon Heua Fai, aka as the Festival of Lights or Moon Festival, is next.
